The Canadian Birkebeiner Society began in 1985 and has evolved over the years into the Canadian Birkie Ski Festival. It has grown to become the largest and friendliest classic-style, cross-country ski festival in Canada, with 5 ski events: 7, 13, 31, 55 km and the legendary 55 km with pack events and takes place at Waskehegan Staging Area in Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area, Alberta.
